Armor, Reps, and the Dissolution of Self

Matt Zeigler·podcast

We all have armor. It's part of how we survive in our various roles and capacities. The problem is when that armor works so well it becomes a cage. Mat Cashman - musician, trader, educator - has spent 40 years watching the paradox of how mastery in one space means you own it, live in it, and repeat it. In anything you practice, there's a risk that it can turn into calcified armor.

But growth doesn't happen in what you've already mastered. It happens when you step into unfamiliar territory and your armor dissolves. The trick is in holding both - the unglamorous reps that build the foundation and the willingness to be genuinely out of your depth.

This Just Press Record conversation is about why that tension matters, and why the pursuit of it is what makes a life worth living.
